CHAPEL ROYAL – ROUTINES FOR READERS
All readers should:-
1. Give the rota organiser prior warning of any special requirements, either temporary or permanent, e.g. lighting, seating, height of lectern.
2. If unavailable:
a. Change with another reader
b. Record the exchange on the rota copy on the notice board
c. Inform the rota organiser of unavailability or exchanges made
3. Prepare for their readings in advance, preferably ALL readings for the day.
4. Arrive at Mass sufficiently early to:
a. Check the readings in the Lectionary before Mass, ensuring the page is returned to that of the first reading for the day.
b. Check with Sally/lead musician whether|:
i. The Psalms and/or the response will be sung
ii. The Alleluia will be sung (antiphon only or verse + antiphon) as those portions sung are not read in addition.
c. If second reader, obtain a copy of the bidding prayers from Fr Hand or passkeeper.
5. Approach the altar together, taking their Bulletin, as the Bulletin versions of both Psalm and Alleluia will be used.
6. Be prepared to lead responses (e.g. for the Psalm) if the congregation’s response is hesitant.
7. Leave the altar together, before the Gospel (with Cantor if present)
8. If second reader, return to the lectern from their seat in the congregation after the Creed to lead the bidding prayers, returning after the end of the silent prayer
9. Books are now available in the Sacristy for readers who wish to borrow them to assist in the preparation of their readings. They may be borrowed the Sunday before the scheduled readings and should be returned the following Sunday, preferably before Mass to ensure their availability to others. There will be a list to be used for signing out and returning borrowed books.
10. Readers wishing to purchase their own copies should contact Tony Gavin who will make the necessary arrangements.
All readers are encouraged to seek feedback from friends/other parishioners regarding audibility, etc.
